HCHS hosts ACSCU-ACI Accreditors Training Seminar

The Association of Christian Schools, Colleges, and Universities – Accrediting Council, Inc. (ACSCU-ACI) held its Accreditors Training for Overall Coordinator, Basic Education and Librarian at Hope Christian High School last February 24 and 25.

Participants were welcomed by the special performances of Hope Angklung, Hope Rondalla and Handbell Ringers, and the opening message of HCHS Principal and ACSCU-ACI Secretary Dr. Angeline Tan. In her remarks, she described the participants as risk-takers for their presence in the training, which shows their willingness and commitment to continuous growth as future accreditors.

Special performances and welcome message

ACSCU-ACI Executive Director Mr. Angelito Pedreño officially started the seminar with an overview of voluntary accreditation. In this plenary session, he discussed the history, nature and principles, and recent developments in accreditation. Other topics include survey instruments, accreditation processes and procedures, a preview of the accreditation visitation, and a decalogue for the accrediting team.

The training proceeded with breakout sessions for the Basic Education and Librarian groups. Dr. Tan and Lorma Colleges Principal Dr. Elizabeth Camara led the discussion on “Faculty, Instruction, Laboratories” in the Basic Education group. For Common Areas, Mr. Pedreño talked about social services, social orientation and community involvement in physical plan and facilities. Meanwhile, Ms. Jorgia Credo facilitated the Librarian group in the discussion of areas of assessment.

In another plenary session on Day 2, ACSCU-ACI President Dr. Miriam Narbarte delved into the responsibilities of applicant schools before and after the survey visit, and the responsibilities of the survey team and the overall coordinator upon accepting the appointment.

In the breakout sessions, the groups simulated a mock accreditation visit. They toured around the campus facilities and assessed the documents provided by HCHS. They evaluated the evidence based on the instruments and guidelines discussed.
